Jewels Fashion and Watches : “What are you proudest of ?”
“ My own life history. I’ve come a long way, and I’ve seen, known and even achieved greatness. I’ve created beautiful things, and that gives me a certain satisfaction. But I’m proudest of my son. I hope he’ll take over my work some day – that’s just the type of father I am. I f he decides later on that he wants nothing to do with my work, I’ll be devastated , I’ll keep my sorrow to myself and never love him any less for it.”

“then in 1993 when the diamond business was going thought a crisis, I decided to start manufacturing fine quality jewellery .it was a good way for me to mount stones that I knew how to buy .besides diamonds, I used rubies, emeralds sapphires in my jewellery, which I supplied to most of the famous jewellers in the place Vendome in Paris“
“So in 1999, we launched our watch and our brand under the name GUY ELLIA but we tried to make the watch as a jewellery-maker and not as a watchmaker.
Having said that, we bought the parts from the best companies in the watch business, such as Frederic Piguet or Christophe Claret
“We will work with the big names in watches. for example we are manufacturing our next tourbillion using a movement made by the master watchmaker , Christophe Claret and we will launch it at the next BASELWORLD show “
“I didn’t learn in any school, I just feel it. I rely on my intuition. Today I have six designers as well as myself but they all work under my supervision and inspiration .I get mi ideas from many places but mainly museums art and fashions they just come into my head but I have to be careful because other people might have had the same ideas “
“We always have to think about new forms and the size of the stones or the mounting. This is where size really is important .so we have to be modern, classic and fashionable at the same time “
Jewels Fashion and Watches :“What makes your work so captivating ?”
Guy Ellia: “Time and space ! perhaps that sounds pompous, but those are the basic elements of life. Time only stops for people. At a certain point , we die, but everything else just keeps on going. That why I think we humans have to be prepared to go any lengths to achieve what we want and to surprise ourselves and those around us. I can be pushy and sometimes quite annoying to those around me because I let my sense of unrest take priority over their sense of calm. I want to score; I want to smell, taste, see, experience and – most importantly – feel.
Beautiful things improve life and make it more interesting. I’m hard to please and I’m always pushing myself aver the edge. That quality of my personality may not always provide much balance, but it’s what allows me to create beautiful things.”

“I cultivate the art of living. And I’m a creator of beautiful objects. I like technique, perfection and beauty, and when those three elements converge, I’m happy. An artist ? What exactly is an artist anyway ? Isn’t everyone an artist in his or her own way ?The man who sells me cigars is an artist; the woman who runs my favourite newspaper stand is an artist too. When people don’t set limits on themselves, that’s when they create art. Whether it’s a beautiful watch or a beautiful wooden table, beauty is beauty.”

“Life is unbelievably captivating, so beautiful and filled with unexpected twists and turns that is an enormous source of inspiration. A walk along the Seine, a dinner with good friends, a ride on the Métro, anything can lead to beauty and, above all, greatness.”
